This past weekend, I had the great pleasure of hosting a surprise baby "sprinkle", along with two dear friends. The honoree is a soon-to-be mama of 4 kids and was in need for the sweetest surprise on a sunny, Sunday afternoon. We schemed with her hubby to get all of her friends gathered in one room and lured her over to aid in car trouble woes. The afternoon was a wild success!
I simply love to throw a good party. It's no surprise to anybody that I jump on any chance to gather with friends, sip some fresh-brewed coffee, and bring out all the stops to evoke a sense of welcome. But what every party needs - a good theme. Now, I'm not always an over-the-top theme person but it certainly helps to keep everything cohesive and direct your scattered thoughts about decor, food, and design details.
Because the special mama for the day has the most well-curated, nature-loving house, we opted for a Woodland themed afternoon. Her first three kids are certainly adventurers so I know this special little one is sure to follow the pack. We sprinkled the place with mushrooms, acorns, pinecones, birch wood and natural fibers. Surprisingly, I had all natural decor on hand or could easily source it from my own sweet mama! Opting for a well-thought theme with readily available details, we were off to a solid start.
As anyone can attest, the food is tantamount to the importance of the theme. Bringing everything together, I wanted to highlight the season with hearty foods but keep it light enough for a Sunday afternoon. We enjoyed a scrumptious salad, spicy squash soup, and easy-to-eat desserts. Some recipes I found online and others I kinda pieced together myself. I've gathered them all here for simple reference!
Shredded Salad with Warm Bacon Vinaigrette
Asiago Sourdough with Honey or Herbed Butter
Apricot Jalapeno Jam + Cream Cheese with Rice Thins
So after saying that a theme is of vital importance...then qualifying that food, too, is up there...I'm now going to say that it's all about the details! I know, every little thing is what makes for a great party.
For a mantle banner, I found some printable drawings on Etsy. Each depicts a little forest animal with a saying like, "be clever" for the fox, "be curious" for the raccoon, "be kind" for the deer, and " be wise" for the owl. Taped them up with some hand-cut fall leaves (courtesy of my roommate) and suddenly the place was transformed!
Because I never want the fun to end, I came up with some "Encouragement Buddy" cards that we passed out before our honoree mama arrived. The ladies in attendance picked a week where they could offer to help with a chore, bring a freezer meal, send a Bible verse of encouragement or stop by for some adult conversation - all to be an encourager in the last two months of pregnancy and into the exhausting first month with the wee one. I've made an editable download to create your own encouragement cards for your next party!
